REVALIDATION OF FOREIGN DIPLOMAS

Many Brazilian professionals have sought an international career, and several countries offer interesting opportunities for professional action.

The plan to change countries and start a new life involves a lot of planning, organization, hours of research and making important decisions.

The first step for those who want to practice their profession outside Brazil is to know the legal regulation of the professional category in the country of destination. In general, the aptitude for professional practice presupposes the academic qualification of the respective area of activity.

Therefore, the first stage refers to the equivalence process of the undergraduate diploma, which is made in a Portuguese higher education institution. In legal terms, in relation to foreign qualifications, Decree-Law No. 283/83 of 21/06 applies in Portugal(http://www.ipv.pt/secretaria/dl28383.pdf) establishing an equivalence/recognition system on the basis of a scientific reassessment, on a case-by-case basis, of the work carried out with a view to obtaining a foreign degree.

This decree-law applies where the foreign degree is not included in the list of degrees set by generic deliberations approved by the Foreign Degree Recognition Commission in accordance with Article 9 of Decree-Law No. 341/2007 of 12 October.
