Portugal granted, since 2015, the possibility of obtaining Portuguese nationality to descendants of Sephardic Jews through Organic Law No. 1/2013 of July 29 and Decree-Law No. 30-A/2015 of February 27. This was a historical reparation measure aimed at restoring the ties between Portugal and the descendants of Sephardic Jewish communities expelled from the Iberian Peninsula.
However, with the update to the Nationality Law enacted by the President of the Republic on May 3, 2026, the possibility of submitting new Portuguese nationality applications through the Sephardic route has been ended.
Therefore, we are no longer accepting new applications based on Sephardic ancestry.
