Step-by-Step Guide: How to Check Your Case on the IRN Website

To check the progress of a Portuguese nationality case on the IRN website, you must have an access key. This code is issued by the Portuguese Government after the application has been submitted and allows you to track the stages of the case online.

How to check your case

  1. Access the IRN case tracking link.
  2. Enter the access key in the indicated field on the portal.
Important: the access key contains 12 numbers, in the following format: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
  3. Confirm the search to view the current status of the case and complete the challenge requested by the system.
  4. Check the stage shown by the system, keeping in mind that the absence of recent updates does not necessarily mean there is a problem with the case.
  5. If you do not yet have the access key, request it by email at ola@martinscastro.pt, providing your details so the case can be identified.
  6. After the application has been submitted, wait for the Portuguese Government to release the access key. This may take several months.

The current system shows four main stages

Submitted: the documents have been received and the case has been filed.

Under review: the registrar is checking and analyzing the documents.

Awaiting decision: the case has passed the review stages and is waiting for the registrar’s final decision.

Completed: nationality has been granted and the registration has been finalized.

Questions and answers

  • Can I check my case without the access key?
No. Online tracking on the IRN website requires the access key issued by the Portuguese Government.
  • I still do not have the key. What should I do?
Request it by email at ola@martinscastro.pt, providing your details so the case can be identified.
  • Is it normal for the key to take time to be released?
Yes. After the case has been submitted, the Government may take several months to release the key.
  • I could not check my case. What happened?
Due to high traffic and other factors, the IRN website may be temporarily unavailable. This does not indicate a problem with your application, but you will need to try again later.
