How to revalidate the diploma of higher education in Portugal?

The recognition in Portugal of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign institutions, is regulated by the Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August entered into force in the year 2019. This decree revoked the previous two Decree Law 283/83, of 21 June it's the Decree-Law 341/2007, of 12 October.

The procedure for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions is regulated by Ordinance No. 33/2019.

ACCOUNTING

In Portugal, the accounting practice is regulated by the Statute of the Order of Certified Accountants, approved by Decree-Law no. 452/99, of 5 November, with the necessary changes.

This legislation was recently amended by the Law No. 119/2019, of 18 September.

Accountants trained in Brazil can work in Portugal, either as certified professionals or as statutory auditors. However, there are criteria that must be met for this to occur. The first is to go through the diploma revalidation process. Due to the ease offered by culture and similarity in training, Portugal is an excellent option for revalidating Brazilian diplomas.

Firstly, the interested party must have an academic degree as a graduate, master or doctor recognized by a Portuguese college. After recognition, the accountant must register with the Order of Certified Accountants (OCC), and for that you will have to deliver the documentation that proves the general conditions of registration, submit to an admission test and fulfill a period of professional internship, as provided in the Regulation No. 160/2020, in force from 1st July 2020.
