Organic Law nº 2/2020, of November 10, amended the wording of al) f), of nº 1, of article 1 of the Law of Nationality, reinforcing the principle of ius alone. It is now considered that persons born in Portuguese territory, children of foreigners, have access to the Portuguese nationality of origin.
This legal provision automatically applies to those born after the 11th of November 2020. Those born before the 11th of November 2020, whenever they comply with the requirements at the close of their birth, they can now request a registration, at the terms of their birth. article 70, nº 6 of the Nationality Regulation.
