Nationality Process Monitor in Portugal – March 2025

In March 2025, monitoring Portuguese nationality applications continues to be a major concern for applicants. The registry offices in Lisbon and Porto, which are primarily responsible for analyzing these applications, have different workflows and analysis dates depending on the type of application and the application route.
Lisbon Registry Office
- Children of Portuguese (Art. 1, C): Currently, applications submitted in the second half of December 2021 are being analyzed.
- Grandchildren of Portuguese (Art. 1, D): At this time, the analysis covers the processes submitted in the second half of May 2021.
- Minor Children of Naturalized Portuguese Citizens (Art. 2): The analysis focuses on processes submitted in the first half of April 2022.
- Spouses (Art. 3): Applications submitted in the second half of September 2021 are currently being analyzed.
- Sephardim (Art. 6, 7): The Lisbon registry office is analyzing the applications submitted in the second half of April 2021.

Other Registry Offices in Portugal
In addition to the main registry offices in Lisbon and Porto, other registry offices in Portugal may also be reviewing nationality applications. However, the jurisdiction to process certain types of applications may vary depending on the location and specialization of each registry office.
Important to Know: THE Porto Registry Office, unlike the Central Registry Office in Lisbon, does not have the authority to analyze all types of nationality cases. Its activities are restricted to specific cases, such as those involving children of Portuguese nationals, grandchildren of Portuguese nationals and Sephardic nationals.
If your process is in another registry office: If you are a Martins Castro client and your case is being analyzed by a registry office other than the main ones in Lisbon or Porto, please contact us for more information. Just send an email to hello@martinscastro.pt, and we will provide you with details about the registry office responsible for analyzing your nationality application.
