¿Qué es e-Residency: the virtual residence of Estonia

It's easy to listen to Estonian talk and think about the possibility of having one virtual residence in the country, the sea, to be part of the program e-Residency. Ok, but you know what this means and who can sign up? We have prepared this publication to discuss this topic.
What is e-Residency?
Despite the name, it is very important to note that the e-Residency this is not a residence permit which provides the right to live in Estonia.
The e-Residency was launched in 2014 by the Estonian government with the aim of being the first government program that allows open and manage a company within the European Union (specifically in Estonia) in 100% online mode. Therefore, if you want or need to do business internationally easily, this program can be what you are thinking.
And when we talk about 100% online, we are not exaggerating. If you are part of the e-Residency program, you have access to the following benefits:
- Establish an Estonian company online;
- Manage the company from anywhere in the world;
- Sign documents and contracts digitally and verify the authenticity of signed documents;
- Encrypt and transmit documents securely;
- Manage electronic and remote cash transactions;
- Access online payment service providers;
- Declare Estonian taxes online.
The program grows every year. There are more than 83 thousand registered people who have established more than 17 thousand companies in Estonia.
Currently, Brazil ranks 28th in the number of applications with 820, and 30th in the number of open companies with 136 – data from august 2021.
Remembering that the program is open to carry out applications by any person in the world as long as the resident of the country is not a citizen of Estonia (in this case, the citizen has a digital identification issued by the government that allows him to to the benefits) and by any person who demonstrates reasonable interest in using the country's electronic services, through a motivation letter.
